Second Russkiy Mir Assembly Launched at Moscow State University

Today the Second Russkiy Mir Assembly got underway at the Intellectual Center of Moscow State University. The opening remarks were delivered by Vyacheslav Nikonov, executive director of the Russkiy Mir Foundation, and Lyudmila Verbitskaya, rector of St. Petersburg State University and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Russkiy Mir Foundation.
Mr. Nikonov welcomed the participants and noted that while at the First Russkiy Mir Assembly much was said about what the Foundation would do in the future, but today much can be said about what is already being done. Nikonov read a message from Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to the participants, in which the president said that the Second Russkiy Mir Assembly represents a remarkable opportunity to support ties with compatriots residing abroad. Nikonov also announced that the Foundation is preparing to launch a number of new and ambitious projects.
Lyudmila Verbitskaya, speaking on behalf of the Foundation's Board of Trustees and the International Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature (MAYPRAL), also welcomed the participants and noted the importance of the creation for the Russkiy Mir Foundation to Russian language specialists around the world. Verbitskaya said that the Foundation harmoniously combines the functions of other organizations such as MAPRYAL, ROPRYAL and others. She also expressed here hope that Russian language will soon be spoken around the globe and Russia itself will speak "beautiful and proper Russian".
