LOCAL STATEN ISLAND GROUPS PLAN A JOINT HOLOCAUST COMMEMORATION EVENT

The Staten Island Community Center, The First Central Family Life Center, and the Stop Anti-Semitism Foundation will commemorate the Jewish Holocaust and the Black Holocaust of American Slavery

On April 27, 2014, The Staten Island Community Center, in collaboration with The First Central Family Life Center, and the Stop Anti-Semitism Foundation, will host an event designed to commemorate the Jewish Holocaust, as well as the Black Holocaust of American Slavery, and other past and present victims of mass atrocities.
In 1979, Congress established, April27-May 4 as the Days of Remembrance for the nation’s annual commemoration of the Holocaust. The Congressional purpose was for civic commemorations and special educational programs that help citizens remember and draw lessons from the Holocaust.
During this 8 day period a National Civic Commemoration is held in Washington, D.C., with state, city, and local ceremonies and programs held in most of the fifty states, and on U.S. military ships and stations around the world.
The Staten Island commemoration will start at 2:00 PM, at The First Central Family Life Center located at 59 Wright Street, Staten Island, NY, 10304.
The program, which is open to the public, will include; the honoring of survivors from the Jewish Holocaust, a presentation from a diverse and distinguished panel, and the viewing of two videos comparing the similarities between the Holocaust and American Slavery. There will also be an open discussion as well as a question and answer period.
